Advanced tickets for the MAIN EVENT Evening Concerts are available at the Cheraw Community Center Monday-Friday 8:30 am until 5:00 pm or on this website. During the festival weekend, tickets and souvenirs will be available at Market Hall (corner of Market and Second Streets) Friday 2:00 pm-6:30 pm and Saturday 10:00 am-6:30 pm. WINTHROP UNIVERSITY JAZZ ORCHESTRA
7:30pm: Theater on the Green
The Jazz Ensemble, formed in 1975, performs a vast array of musical styles, ranging from traditional big band literature to the most contemporary jazz. Its mission is to prepare the students for professional performing opportunities in the jazz and contemporary music fields. Free Admission.

This outreach program of the South Carolina Jazz Festival exposes students to the wonderful sounds of jazz.

BEBOP PARADE & DIZZY’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

10:45 am: Gather at Dizzy Park for parade lineup.
11:00 am:Parade begins and is followed by Dizzy's birthday celebration.
"Empire Strikes Brass" provides jazzy tunes for the parade. Presented by Buddy Brooks State Farm Insurance.
Imagine Circus Entertainers - Presented by FLOCO Foods, Inc. Free Entertainment: Stilt walkers, hoopers, jugglers, facepainting, balloon artists. Second Line Umbrella Participants lead this fun-filled parade from Dizzy Park on Huger Street to downtown's Centennial Park. Join the Bebop excitement at any point. Bikes, trikes, golf carts and dancing shoes welcomed. At Centennial Park, celebrate Cheraw native Dizzy Gillespie's 100th birthday with a slice of birthday cake. Event canceled in the case of rain.

“THE UMBRELLA MAN” SECOND LINE DECORATED UMBRELLAS
There will be no rain on our Bebop Parade, however decorated umbrellas at Second Line Parades symbolize celebration, and these unique creations will be a great way to say, "Happy Birthday, Dizzy!" After all, "The Umbrella Man" was a favorite song Dizzy often performed. Decorate an umbrella and join the fun!

Dizzy Gillespie Centennial Celebration.
Three of the Carolina's most esteemed trumpeters Mark Rapp, Eleazar Shafer and Jon Thornton take to the stage to pay tribute to the great Dizzy Gillespie. Joining them will be trombonist Dr. Mitch Butler and 17 year-old saxophone sensation Ben Eidson. Danny Boozer, Dustin Retzlaff and 19-year-old Sean Mason comprise the rhythm section. Narrating this great adventure in jazz is Dr. Wilmot Albert Fraser, author of "To Be or Not To Bop: Memoirs of Dizzy Gillespie." Winner of the SC Jazz Festival Composition Competition will perform.
