John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie was born here in 1917, and every October we bring the music back home. For four days, the South Carolina Jazz Festival fills Cheraw with sound — world-class artists on the Theatre on the Green stage, brass bands parading down 2nd Street, students with horns in their hands, and free concerts on the Town Green and at the Dizzy Gillespie Homesite Park.
Most of what happens during festival weekend is free and open to everyone. That is a deliberate choice, and it is only possible because of the people who give.
Ticket sales cover a fraction of what it takes. Your gift covers the rest: the artist fees, the sound and lights, the school programs, the parade, and the scholarships that put instruments in the hands of the next Dizzy.

It fills local businesses, it brings visitors from across the Southeast, and for one weekend a year it makes Cheraw the loudest small town in South Carolina.
